A $1 million gift from the France-Merrick Foundation will support the fall 2014 reopening of the historic entrance to the BMA’s 1929 building, designed by American architect John Russell Pope. In 2014, for the first time in more than thirty years, visitors will enter through the Museum’s grand, terraced front entrance and explore the spectacular renovation of the Dorothy McIlvain Scott American Wing. The newly reopened entrance will turn the terraced steps into a lively urban meeting spot that deepens the BMA�s connection to the revitalized upper Charles Street corridor and surrounding neighborhoods.
Once again, the Pope Building will be a central gathering place. Visitors will be welcomed to the expansive Fox Court at the heart of the Museum, beautifully lit by the original chandeliers. Galleries adjacent to Fox Court will feature the BMA’s holdings of American fine and decorative arts, exploring major themes and highlighting masterworks in surprising new ways.
