Asian Art Galleries

Two new Asian art galleries opening in 2015, including the relocated Levy Gallery, will provide an elegant setting for the BMA’s fascinating collection of Asian art, which includes more than 3,000 objects from China, Japan, India, Tibet, Southeast Asia, and the Near East.

For the reopening, approximately 175 works of art will be arranged in a larger exhibition space to highlight the themes of making (materiality) and meaning (spirituality and philosophy). The reinstallation will highlight Chinese ceramics, the strength of the collection, while fostering a fuller and broader appreciation of Asias artistic traditions.

“Around the globe, across the BMA collections, Asian art broadens and connects our understanding of human achievement. This more visible and dynamic presentation will allow the objects in our collection to speak with new and stronger voices to the next generation of visitors.”
