The American Wing

An Exciting Time of Achievement & Anticipation

The November reopening of the Contemporary Wing marked an important milestone for the BMA—the first completed phase of the Museum’s unprecedented, multi-year renovation that will provide a more dynamic and engaging experience for our audiences.

The Contemporary Wing has been beautifully transformed with a new sense of openness created by architectural changes and state-of-the art lighting. The new presentation of our outstanding collection and a dynamic schedule of changing exhibitions and special programs has encouraged 60,000 visitors this year to have thought-provoking and inspiring encounters with contemporary art and artists from the 20th century to the present moment. An innovative new mobile website—BMA Go Mobile—offers visitors access to original audio and video content about the artworks on view using their smartphones or tablets. A myriad of infrastructure improvements are helping us preserve the collection for future generations.

This milestone was only achieved because of the incredible support the project had from so many generous donors, both public and private, who recognize the important role the BMA plays in our community. We are also very grateful for the extraordinary support for the BMA’s In a New Light Campaign, which has raised $69 million in endowment, capital, immediate impact funds, and annual fund gifts and sponsorships.

Our fundraising for the renovation continues as we work to make visiting the BMA more welcoming, engaging, and inspiring. Thank you for helping us achieve this goal! We look forward to celebrating with you the reopening of the historic Merrick Entrance and Dorothy McIlvain Scott American Wing and the Zamoiski Entrance and East Wing Lobby during the BMA’s 100th anniversary in fall 2014.
