EVERY DAY
See the BMA’s first reinstallation of its contemporary collection centered on black artistic imagination. Nearly 50 works of painting, sculpture, video, printmaking, and photography from the BMA’s permanent collection, alongside a select group of loans, foreground the critical contributions black artists have made to postwar visual art.
HITCHING THEIR DREAMS
Hitching Their Dreams to Untamed Stars brings together 10 artworks—quilts, beaded and glass sculptures, weavings, and more—made separately or in collaboration by MacArthur award-winner Joyce J. Scott and her mother, renowned fabric artist Elizabeth Talford Scott.
DOCUMENTING ANGOLA
Keith Calhoun and Chandra McCormick’s photographs and videos record the exploitation of men incarcerated in the Louisiana State Penitentiary while restoring visibility to a population often forgotten by the public at large.
FREE FAMILY SUNDAYS
Nurture your child's creative side during hands-on art-making workshops in response to works on view.
BMA STORIES
The BMA’s new content channel, BMA Stories, is place for sharing stories about art. Stories create space for context, emotion, and impact. We want you to hear stories from curators and staff about their experiences. And we want to hear stories from you.
SUBVERTING BEAUTY
Explore why sub-Saharan African artists in the colonial period turned against conventional notions of beauty to express the meaning and vitality of their day-to-day existence.
